WordCamp Europe speakers – K. Adam White, Alain Schlesser, Ivelina Dimova, Dwayne McDaniel, and Andrew Nacin

We’re proud to present our next group of technical talks to you. Please, extend our welcome to K. Adam White, Alain Schlesser, Ivelina Dimova, Dwayne McDaniel, and Andrew Nacin. They will cover development topics ranging from REST API to development best practices and tricks.

K. Adam White – Data Visualisation with the REST API

As an engineer at Bocoup, K. Adam White writes web applications, contributes to open-source projects, and evangelises the web as an open platform for technology and collaboration. His talk, “Data Visualisation with the REST API,” will explore how the REST API can be combined with visualisation tools like D3.js to gain new insights into your content. He’ll demonstrate how build a network diagram to visualize how tags and categories area applied to posts, then explain how to use custom post types and register_meta to build a completely custom dashboard within WordPress for any type of data.

Alain Schlesser – Demystifying the WordPress Bootstrap Process

The WordPress bootstrap process is only scarcely documented, with only a very select group of developers that truly know the ins and outs and historical reasons behind the individual bootstrapping steps. Want to know more? Alain, a freelance software engineer and WordPress consultant, will be “Demystifying the WordPress Bootstrap Process” at WordCamp Europe this summer. In his talk, Alain will present a detailed overview of the exact execution flow that launches your WordPress site on each page request and introduce a feature project that aims to improve the existing bootstrap process.

Ivelina Dimova – Make your own WP-CLI command in 10min

Ivelina is a WordPress developer at CrowdFavorite who is focused on back-end development and passionate about version control systems, deployment and server administration tools. Many in the WordPress community benefit from WP-CLI, a management tool that can make your development flow a lot easier. Ever wondered how that tool can be extended to support custom commands? Ivelina will provide a short overview on just that in “Make your own WP-CLI command in 10min.”

Dwayne McDaniel – We Are All Making This Up: Improv Lessons For Developers

Dwayne is a Community and Agency Success Manager at Pantheon, a role in which he has had the privilege of presenting at multiple events. He will discuss the parallels between the open source development world and improv communities in his talk: “We Are All Making This Up: Improv Lessons For Developers.” The talk will offer guidance on how you can directly apply the core principles from the stagecraft of improv to create better code, smoother projects, and happier customers.

Andrew Nacin

As lead developer of WordPress, Andrew led major releases, mentored contributors, and spearheaded new development. He has strong feelings about the core philosophies of WordPress, among them “decisions, not options” — software should be opinionated in lieu of burdening the user with too many options.
